James Hetfield's guitar was originally white, but 30 years of aging causes a nitro finish to yellow. I went with a vintage cream color paint to mimic the effect of an aging white, but I would really have to have the original next to this one to know for sure how close it is. I used Titebond 1 glue to set the neck. I suspect that Gibson used hot hide glue, but I don't know for sure. Things that are definitely different -Body wood.
This is probably the biggest difference. The one I made has a basswood body, but an original 1985 Gibson Explorer should have an alder body. With an EMG pickup set, I am not sure that is going to make much of a difference. -Truss rod cover.
