6 at the Sandcastle Community Center (1 Shipwatch Rd.) Mary Q. Craig Weaver Terry and I moved to Kiawah ten years ago. We both grew up in Michigan, where I received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Michigan State University. I have thirty years of business experience, primarily in the energy industry, where I held management responsibilities covering US and international locations.
I also worked for Best Buy Corp. As human resources vice president and UBS, providing investment and portfolio management support to individuals. Soon after moving to Kiawah I joined KICA’s human resources and strategic planning committees. In 2009, I was elected as a director on the KICA board, serving as the board’s chair for two for those three years. In 2012, I was appointed by the Charleston County Council as a commissioner with the St. John’s Fire District. Finally, in 2014, I was elected to the town council, where I have served on the Ways and Means Committee and led the town’s communications and public safety committees.
In addition to these governmental activities, Terry and I have served as co-presidents of the Kiawah POPs organization and I currently assist her by providing administrative support to the Kiawah Women’s Foundation. Why do you want to be Mayor? The town government can either benefit the community or add little value, depending upon where it puts its focus and resources. It can look outward, serve its residents and businesses and improve the community, or it can focus inward and concern itself with raising revenue, passing regulations, building staff and pursuing its own ambitions.
